I have suffered from depression for as long as I can remember, but I always felt as though I had a good handle on things. I could feel my downs coming and prevent them, or at least care enough to try. For the past year however, it has been uncontrollable. It has been causing many problems in my relationship and I have been trying to hard to make it stop. My head is constantly flowing with thoughts of how low and horrible I am. How shitty I treat myself, and everyone around me. Oh, and best of all, I get myself depressed hating myself for being so depressed. I am just lost as to where to go now, I can't seem to get a handle on this no matter how hard I try, and I'm not sure what else to do.

I have been there. The hardest thing to do is seek help. Do you have a family doctor. Get a check up maybe or maybe not they will give you meds or they might just refer you to a counseler. Either way they both work. There are so many people that have depression. Start writing in a journal and be good to yourself. hugs and prayers to you...

I have been to therapists since I was six. It was never really helpful to me, and now that I am pregnant pills are a no go. I understand my depression very well, to well... I just can't figure out how to make that little voice in my head that is always telling me how shitty I am to stop...

One time my therapist told me to write everyday 5 things good about myself or good things that happen that day. I started to look at the postive in myself. Take the day as it comes and be good to yourself and the little one on the way.

Hey Natalie ... welcome. Glad you have asked us for help. I notice on your profile you do not list any professional treatment ... therapy and/or medications.
Most of us are on a medication or two for depression and find it really is helpful. I would recommend, if you have not already, getting a good medical evluation and diagnosis, then onto a professional treatment plan. Also, participating here on DS is helpful to us, so you are in a good place. Good luck here, and remember, ... take what does you well, give what you wish, and ignore the rest.

I understand about pregnancy and medications .. many mothers to be want to minimize all medications. Just want to say that pregnancy CAN 'mess with the hormones' and there are many medications for that which can be taken when pregnant.
The choice is yourse, of course.

Thanks for the advice. I have spent way to many hours of my life with a therapist and have tried ani depressants before. I don't feel like those help me. I am hoping to try new ways of coping and healing. would love any ideas you have in that direction.
