Hi, I have been a lurker for a bit, but I am suffering today so here goes...I had this nightmare of a roommate and since I moved out in September she has not sent me my deposit.
I am trying to be more assertive, because the "unhealthy" me would just forget about it. So I sent her a demand letter that my state's website has. Her response was a letter that was, ..let's just say a major character assasination. She said that I should be giving her money, because I was a horrible roommate. She also attacked my boyfriend, my parents, etc. She closed with "Do what you feel you have to." Meaning that the money isn't coming. My first reaction is to run and hide..my next is to drink. (Since I have many months sober, I don't want to do that) I know what I should do, that is file in small claims court and all that, but that isn't the problem. It has been over 24 hours and I can't help take it personally. I know, reasonably, that she isn't a nice person and that it is her problem, but I just have this yucky feeling in my gut that won't go a way. .....Maybe it is me that is horrible?....you know those kind of thoughts. I haven't been able to sleep and that is not good for my mental state... Any advice? Posted on 02/18/07, 06:33 pm |

I have had those kinds of thoughts, usually it's all for nothing, and it often turns out for me, that the other person is the "horrible" one, she'll get hers, and you'll probably be there to see it, or hear about it from others.
If you really want answers, ask your friends or people you trust what they think.

and make sure you follow through with getting your deposit, or you will resent yourself for not being assertive.
