Advice:
Going to try something new

I've tried a myriad of medications to try and battle depression, but none of them have had an effect. I've heard that positive thinking, along with having any number of healthy outlets for pain, is a method nearly unparalleled in it's aptitude for making one's life better. So I'm going to try it. The thing is, I've always been stubbornly resistant to any change whatsoever when it comes to my perception, so I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me regarding this method.

Anything you can give me will be GREATLY appreciated, thank you!

" What do you believe will happen if you change your perception? Is changing your perception perceived as a threat of some kind? I think our perceptions of things are embedded in us deep so changing them is rather hard ......but if you could in some way acknowledge that another perspective is not going to harm you in any way......it might be easier to accept it :-) "

" The only thing I really have is my perception of the world, it's what makes me who I am. If I change it, I become a different person. And who I am is all I've ever had, it's the only reason I have for staying here. If I lose it, and get nothing positive in return, I fear the worst. "

" Don't give up what psychotherapies have you tried? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...

One new one not on the list I heard of recently is equinepsychotherapy http://www.equinepsychotherapy.net.au/ is called something else in the US. Might just fit the bill "

" Well, I guess I will start out slow since you are stubborn! :-) Your words!!
anyway, have you tried just getting outside and walking? Also lifting weights? Exercise is proven to help with depression. Start slow and work yourself up. What is your favorite thing to do? Have you stopped doing that as well? Is it possible to start it back up again? Have you also tried therapy? There is a therapy that I believe is called Cognitive Therapy? Maybe do some research on it and see if it's for you. It's really hard to find the right medications. I have been on so many and off as many too. The only one that I have found to work is Prozac. I have never had side effects, but I do know that with it, comes taking more as time goes on and then going off for a short period of time, just about like anything else.
I wish I had some great advice for you but someone here will say exactly what you need to hear. That's just how it seems to work here with this family. Good luck to you hon. "
