Here are my own recommendations for all caregivers dealing with their parents or other loved ones who have dementia:
1. Have a positive attitude all the time. Be as happy as you can be and don't neglect your own health and well-being. You can't help others if you don't take care of your own health and well-being first. 2. We can only do so much for our loved ones with dementia. We cannot be miracle workers and we are only human. We cannot allow them to get us depressed. 3. Try stress reducers that include deep breathing and meditation, which can truly help clear our heads. When done daily, anyone can eliminate so much stress that it can be unbelievable. 4. Maintain a great sense of humor. It helps us and it helps our loved ones with dementia too. A good laugh is definitely good medicine. I personally love to make my parents laugh as it gives me pleasure. |
