Do dementia sufferers lose the ability to hear or understand? Mum keeps saying she can't here us and dad puts it down to hard wax but I'm not so sure?

My husband's hearing has been tested and yet he still complains that he can't hear me.....I truly believe that what he means when he says he can't hear is that he doesn't understand, so yes, I would say this typical.

I agree with Deb. My husband doesn't speak much. He always has a befuddled look about him. No matter what you say to him he says "yes"
I think not hearing so much as confusion.

Changing the subject, I'm going back to see them tomorrow (Nov 6th). It's really only just hitting me that things will never been the same again (see my journal) and I think I'm starting to grieve.

Sorry, I should have thanked you for your help. I've since been home and things are stable at the moment. Thanks again.
