auto fusion of vertebrae

Hi, I was just wondering it anyone else had vertebrae that auto fused themselves after an injury. My cervical 5 and 6 fused themselves together and I think the neurosurgeons want to wait to see if the same thing happens with C4 and 5, so they are holding off on surgery. Has anyone else been told their vertebrae have self fused together. When the Dr's look at my MRI's. it looks like I had fusion surgery but the vertebrae did it themselves. Would appreciate any comments or info. Thanks, Mary Anne

" Hi Mary Anne, so sorry you are having pain. My son has had this experience. When he first told me I was skeptical that his doc was just crazy. Its been a while now and I have found that yes this can happen but its not real common. He has opted not to have surgery for this since it isnt affecting his mobility to the point he feels that surgery is the answer. He is still in pain though and takes medication for it. You might find more information about this at www.spine-health.com. I have had L5 S1 fused and honestly it has really messed up my life. I also have a spinal cord stimulator and it only helps a little and the surgical pain is still there after 7 months. Truly sucks. Anyway I hope this might help a little. You are not alone(but not that common either). Please keep researching this and keep us informed on what you decide to do. Lots of gentle hugs and blessings,Christine "

" Hi Christine, I am going to hold off on the neck surgery. I have trigger point injections in my arms and they help. I am having more problems with my L5S1 area and my right leg is weak. The neurologist diagnosed ataxia. I am going to balance therapy. I am sorry you are in so much pain!!! My girlfriend has severe lumbar problems and she had a oblation of the nerves done. She had several pain free months after that. Take care and God Bless, Mary Anne "
