Advice:
newbie--start cymbalta?

just saw a commercial for cymbalta --sure would like that life(my old life) back. "HOW WOULD LIKE TO SPEND A DAY WITHOUT PAIN" they ask

I have 3 months of samples i could start but have read so many horror stories of people taking it for even a short time and taking weeks to withdraw

I CAN get by. Using motrin and a dr oz magnet helps. But still get stiff hips and back after 30 minutes of even puttering around in the garage. yeah, and the only sleeping for a few hours before getting up to do yoga for relief is a pain-and putting on socks is a three step process........and most of you know the drill.

I guess im asking, there are so many more people on this site who have it much worse. Should i just stick it out and not risk the cymbalta?

" Hi and welcome. Just an FYI, the chronic pain forum is far more active than this with many members who have a wealth of experiences.

As for cymbalta...I have no personal experiences with it but, I say give it a try. I hope it helps you feel better. "

" I take Cymbalta, and I couldn't do without it. But sounds as if your pain could be managed with something a bit milder. Cymbalta does affect your nervous system. Can cause some side effects that are undesirable to. For me it helps a lot though. I have a lot of nerve damage, pain that my Celebrex just wasn't helping with and this has helped . "

" thank you for the advice. Trying to see where i "fit in" with others in pain. How did you rate your pain on a day to day basis? I start off the morning at about a 6 and maybe hit a 7 during the day. At that point i need to stop what i am doing and work on streching out the hips anb back.
Most of the day is spent at 5. That is with the motrin or aleve. "

" For me, I have a hard time rating my pain. I have had it so long. I have had both hips replaced and two neck surgery's, so I think back to that pain and it was off the charts unbearable. My pain is everyday with some days worse than others. Also I have learned to work with it, there really isn't a med. that can get rid of it, there are med.s that can help. For me it is a combination of things that get me through, it is the med.s, stretching, resting frequently, doing what I can do and not overdoing it.Also massage is so helpful for me as well is hot baths, heating pads and lots of pillows when I sleep. Also exercise is a huge thing for the stiffness to. By the way I take Celebrex, Cymbalta, and Neurotin this combination does work pretty well for me, most of the time. For me I have a lot of nerve pain and a lot of stiffness which is all day but worse in the morning or in cold weather or rainy weather.Hope this helps you a bit. "
