Is it typical for a DVT to hurt when sitting or sleeping? That is when I have most of my pain. Sometimes when I am walking or standing but its more when I am laying down or sitting. My cardiologist wont do an ultrasound on me as he thinks I am okay and don't have a DVT. I have been wearing compression hose non stop and the pain moves around in my leg. Should I go to the ER even though I have been there 4 times in the past month for chest pains, shortness of breath and left arm and leg pains, but no one has looked at my leg. I have no swelling, no discoloration just a lot of pain. Not sure what to do and don't want to let this go so that if it is a DVT I end up in a more serious situation. Just wanted peoples thoughts on the pain when I am sitting or sleeping. When I pull my toes up flex my foot it really doesnt hurt. Thanks

Personally, I had some swelling but mainly it really hurt to bend my leg and to walk. It was slightly swollen and slightly darker looking than my other leg. It did not hurt any more or less when I flexed my foot, and did not hurt any more or less when I was standing or sleeping. It also felt crampy in my calf.
Symptoms can vary wildly from person to person though - from feeling a stitch in your leg to big pain, heat and discoloration. If you feel something is not right, by all means get a second opinion!

Hiya,
I would definetly go and get it checked out properly, and not take no for an answer. You know your body better than anyone so if its worrying you then def get it looked at. I've had 2 completely different DVT experiences. My 1st was very painful, I couldn't support myself on left leg when I stood up and my leg went dark blue nearly black when I was upright. Also felt hot and very heavy and difficult to move full-stop. My 2nd DVT - I had a slight pain around kneecap, as I'd changed my training program few weeks before I put it down to that as the pain wasn't strong enough to bother me really so didn't think anything of it. It was only when I noticed slightly more swelling than I was used to (after 1st DVT I'm left with one leg always more swollen than the other) that I thought to get it checked. After being initially dismissed by a doctor at the ER - I was called back to hospital and told I needed injections in my tummy until they could get me scanned a couple of days later. Ultrasound confirmed then that I did indeed have another clot. .

My DVT felt like a strain, that's it. I was on BCP,s and knew I was at higher risk so second day I called the DRs. I had no swelling or redness or heat. And I could not replicate the pain by touching it as you might have for a strain to rub it. So I felt maybe a DVT, I was right.
