I have a huge Dvt running the full lengh of my leg up in to my pelvis area.
When I was in hospital I had breathless and chest pain with every breath I took , I honestly thought I wasnt going to make it. I didnt sleep for three nights or days because I was terrified I would die in my sleep Finaly I started to sleep after my consultant gave me a senative,s while I was in hospital. Trouble is since I came home, I hate going to bed at night, I stay up until my husband insist,s I go to bed which is usualy late. I find it hard to sleep and have my mobile phone at the side of me just incase anything was to happen. I get chest pain on and off dueing the week and it realy worries me. When I do eventualy drop to sleep I wake up every two hours or so and are up at 6.am in the morning . I did have a echocardiogram a few weeks ago which did show I had fluid on the heart but was told it was probably due to my DVT. Does anybody have these problems/ worries or is it me being over sensative??? Please feel free to drop me a line. Maggie x Posted on 10/29/09, 02:10 pm |

Maggie, I am with you. I think I have a DVT but cardiologist is dragging his feet with the tests. I dont sleep at night either in fear that I wont wake up. I sleep with the TV on and when I do fall asleep I wake up with my heart racing. I have had every heart tests done everything is fine but just horrible leg pain which no one will examine. I know it is hard to relax but try. Get some valarian root it does wonders. I wish you the best!

Ok...I've been reading through these posts, and I think I have your sleeping issue figured out. It is the lack of sex.
I highly suggest you have sex (over and over) until you are completely exhausted and pass out. This will help you sleep as well as relieve a lot of anxiety and stress. You might even look forward to going to bed. If it is real good, however, it could aggravate your shortness of breath :) Seriously, you have to consciously continue doing the things that you really enjoy. No one looks forward to a day filled with fright searching for our death on the internet. You are the one that needs to make sure your life is enjoyable. I know how scared you are. I know how hard it is to shake...and I know most of your friends and family just don't get it. If you focus on the joy in life, time will heal you.

Hi Chrissily,
Ive just read your reply and even though I would love to have rampant sex with my husband. I am frightened because of the pain and the risk of my clot breaking off. I have servere pain on and off in my grion, thigh, knee, calf and my broken foot. We do find other ways of being sexually close. I suppose time is a great healer so I have to be patient. Maggie x

I know the stress and anxiety the DVT brings on. It's a life threatening situation. But, you are diagnosed and on a blood thinner - so you should be fine. You are on the road to recovery. Think now of only taking good care of you so you can get completely recovered. I did a lot of praying too and scripture readings. You have to get your state of mind in a better place. Stop thinking the worse and count your blessings. All these things helped me and I'm doing really well. It's a gradual improvement and it takes time. I'm an impatient person so that didn't help. Take care and my heart goes out to you. I completely understand where you are at with the anxiety!!

Thanks momof3boys89,
Yes I know I have to change my mind set and be more possitive and I know im at less risk of PE's now Im on Warfarin. But having the Dvt the full lengh of my leg and having a broken foot that has not mended in five and half months, does get me down because im usely very busy and active person. Anyway im excepting I cant do much but be patient. Im looking forward to xmas and I have a wheelchair now so I can get out a bit. I cant walk much cause of my foot so cant go shopping with out it, But I do trying and hobble around my house has much has possible to get some excercise. My consultant says once my clot has gone he will operate on my foot but said its gone be a long time for the clot to desperse. Maggie x

Ha, Chrissilvernail, love the advice! I'm 44 years old and wish I could FIND my sex drive. But that's another post for another community.
Seriously, I think we get it in our heads that we are sick people. Right after I had my DVT/PE, I felt so fragile. Well, finally, it occured to me, I am NOT fragile. I mean, I survived a freakin' massive PE... in both lungs. I'm neither sick nor fragile. In fact, I kick ass. It just takes some soul searching and getting your mind around everything before you feel that way. By the way, you look like Seth Rogen in your picture. Do you get that a lot?
