Compression stockings hurt my foot

Hey everyone! I am 7 weeks post DVT. I finally got in to see a vascular dr. last week and he said I should have been wearing compression stockings weeks ago. I had asked my general md about it, and she said I didn't need it. The vasular dr. said research shows that patients who wear the stockings during the course of treatment are 2/3 less likely to develop the thrombotic syndrome later, when the veins don't heal properly. To me, those are big stats! Anyhow, I wore the stockings for about 4 hours the first day and they squeezed my foot. I had a stress fracture on the outside of my foot, which put me in a boot, which led to the DVT. Even though the MRI has come out "clean" since, I still have soreness on the outside. I have the open toe stockings, but I need something that won't squeeze the side of my foot. Has anyone else had this problem and have any solution? I really want to wear the stockings, but my foot was so sore after that first time. Suggestions, comments, feedback welcome! Thanks everyone!

" I cannot say I've had your foot problem but for your case it may matter what grade compression you are using. Grades are measured in mm HG (raising a column of mercury so many mm, the higher the tighter). Typical grades are 18 mm Hg, 15-20, 20-30, 30-40, and 40-50. If by any chance you are using a higher grade and they are not tolerable then perhaps a grade lower will do. Also, there can be differences from brand to brand. "

" Hi Charlotte,
Did the person who measured you also measure your foot? You may need to go a size up or have stockings custom-made for your size.
I am also wearing the open-toed stockings due to the warm weather and they are almost a little loose at the end near the toes, fitting snuggly on the rest of the foot and leg. No squeezing or anything.
I wear class II stockings. "

" I would go with more2be's advice. Possibly they didn't measure as well as they should have or just weren't thinking about the foot problem. I would look at a different brand also but that's just because I'm cheap. LOL "

" Sounds like they were fitted correctly. They should be tight but not that tight. Who fitted you for them? I tried on 2 pairs before we figured out which ones I needed and know that I have physical therapy they are going to be resizing me. Unlike you I have had 8 clots in my left leg so we had to find a way to get rid of some of the fluid built up thats why I am doing all this. "

" Yes, I'm also with the impressions tha you are wearing the wrong size FUGLY.
I have been wearing the fugly for three years and I have never experienced what you have described. due to PTS, I'm presently wearing a custom fitted fugly.
Have you talked to your Dr about this?
I would... "

" Sorry you are having trouble with the stockings. I wear the ones to my knee and I could never go without them. Please take them back and ask someone to refit you for them. Have a comfortable day. Pepper "
