Engorged-Coumadin Continues/Exercises?

Six months post-diagnosis and well...the doc said Wednesday that my leg is engorged which I looked up.."To fill to excess, as with blood or other fluid." So, I am still on blood thinners until I don't know when. He did say that I could have an ultrasound instead of a laproscopy for my abdominal pain since I will be on blood thinners a while longer. That was good news.

He said that I can't exercise too much...meaning exercise a lot...any and every kind. I know this setback is probably due to work. I have been so stressed with deadlines and pressures at work I have been forgetting to move my legs. It's crazy that it takes me getting worse to remember.

So, I guess I am back to my old question of creative ways to get in extra exercise. I have been coming home after sitting at my desk most of the day too tired to walk, ride my stationary bike, or anything. How do you get started exercising when you feel too tired to move?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I used to be an avid runner, about 1.5/mile a day, and work out afterwards. This was all before going to work. I would wake up early, about 1.5 hours, to get the run in, water and feed the dogs, make coffee, workout, etc. Even if it's raining. We have four German Shepherds, and alternate taking two of them for my run. I've found this helps me with an energy boost at work, clears my mind, no matter what kind of stressful projects on my plate.

Now that I have this DVT resulting from my hamstring surgery recovery, I was told first not to run, or 'pound the pavement,' so to speak, as well as that it's too early for running based on the hamstring recovery and PT schedule, I've taken up walking, and still workout afterwards, but I can't use the big bar, no standing curls, etc, because of the strain on the hamstrings, and overall the legs. Doc told me to not do anything to jar loose any clots I have. So it's mostly dumbell work.

Nonetheless, I've found that when I tried to do that after work, I could never get started!

Give it a shot for a day or two, or at least every other day for starters. You may find you'll like it.

" You can also do some isometric exercise. Not as good but it will keep the blood flowing, otherwise there is a chance of the blood pooling in the ankles and what not. Not a good thing. "
