I really want to get a tattoo on my lower back and I was wondering if anyone has gotten one while they were on the coumading or warfarin. I read different online sites and they said that it shouldn't be a problem. I've wanted a tattoo forever and I'm thinking about going next week and setting up an appt. I'm going to be on coumadin for life so I figure I might as well get it done now.

a tatoo artist advised against it. To me it would make sence because of you buising so much easier. I dont know how blood thinners effect you but I bruised A LOT more on warfarin. Even when though for the whole month i was on it my INR was within range. Definitely check with your doctor!!!

I just assumed we weren't allowed. I had wanted to get another tattoo for the longest time, but I remember specifically in the paperwork that I filled out I had to sign that I hadn't taken Advil before hand. Sooo I assumed that being on Coumadin was therefore, out of the question. I did figure though, that maybe I could go a few days without taking it if I talk to my hematologist about it first and plan around everything or maybe I could switch to the Lovenox shots right up until the day I get it done...ha ha I've thought about it a lot, can you tell?? I would never do anything without talking to my Hematologist first though. The thing is, I've known the tattoo I've wanted since I was little and I refuse to settle for anything. I need to find the perfect one before I will ever get it done. So, I still have some time to figure things out.

I know a tattoo artist who won't tattoo you if you've even taken an aspirin the day of the appointment. I would be surprised if a reputable tattoo joint would do it.
Although I get where you're coming from being that you're on the meds for life and that you want to just go for it. I don't blame you!

i wanted to get a tattoo while i was on the blood thinner. i was advised against it because of the coumadin that i was taking was already thinning my blood out and the bleeding would be more then a normal tattoo would be with someone not on a blood thinner. i waited a year before i got another tattoo done to ensure the coumadin was out of my system and i was fine after that

I talked to my doctor and he said that he recommends me not getting it just because of the fact that it wouldn't turn out right. He said that he knows that I wouldn't be happy with the outcome because due to all the bleeding that would happen it just wouldn't turn out right and would take forever to heal.
