Hello All,
Hope everybody is doing good. I have been on warfarin for 9 months. It was extended for a year since i still have a lil bit of my blood clot on my right leg, most of which is gone. Anywhoo, I'm a social drinker and so i have definitely not been on a social tip since my diagnosis on July of 2011. For New Years i had a couple of drinks & prayed God let me just enjoy this with no complications. Well I did.. I'm seriously in like a need to go out and socialize a bit. I'm a single women & if i don't go out & meet someone soon i'm gonna go bonkers. Damn, been single for a while & this DVT sure made it much longer and more difficult to say the least. So here's the 25,000 dollar question??? How many drinks can i have? I limit myself to two in a long period of time but i get nervous that i can harm myself. I tell you what.. when i finally stop the warfarin i will have the only hip hop horray party, lol... but seriously, how many can i have before i go crazy ...?? Thanks in advance for your reply.

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Alcohol is itself a blood thinner. I don't know if it affect INR (I think it does in some folks), but you'd want to be careful drinking too much too regularly while taking warfarin.
Lots of folks on here have a drink a day or a few drinks at a time. I'm sure they'll pop up to tell you about it. Hang in there!
I have 2-3 drinks a week. It doesn't impact my INR, but it may impact some people's. I either drink wine or vodka on the rocks. I don't think it matters what you drink. It's really about volume. So sometimes, I'll order a drink and depending on the bartender, there's enough booze in that drink to really count as two. So it's just being mindful of how much I'm drinking so I don't get smashed out of the blue. That has happened to me where suddenly I'm like, wow, I'm kind of drunk. How did that happen!
Like Toss said, the real concern about drinking while on warfarin is getting super impaired and hurting yourself.
And I agree, it's much better to allow yourself things than to constantly be thinking about what you can or cannot eat or drink, or do. That's not healthy either. We're on warfarin, not doing time in prison. Be happy and have a drink if you want it.
The only query I'd have is that you'd be drinking it with cranberry which can cause dodgy INR readings... You'd maybe have to change your mixer to something else??
That aside, enjoy it...
Life's for living xx
