Warfarin side effects, leg cramps

Feeling scared today. I was diagnosed with a DVT 3 months ago and getting better. But this morning, I got a bad cramp in my DVT leg, in the calf. I've gotten a couple so far. Is this common? Should I be worried? Also, do scratches take longer to heal on Warfarin? I feel like little scratches and abrasions I get take longer to heal.

Does anyone know the answers to these?

Thanks!

" I've not had cramping like that unless I've been up for a long time at work (I run an embroidery shop), and they're not intense.
My wounds do seem to take longer to a.quit bleeding and b.heal. Just part of the deal. *sigh*
Hope it all gets better! "

" I've been at this since 2000. I have Factor V Lieden and I never know how much coumadin/warfin I'm going to take. It depends alot on what I eat since different foods with Vitamin K in it (lettuce, any kind of green vegetable) tend to make your blood thicker.

I just recently changed to Warfin because it is cheaper and I haven't really notice any changes. If I have to take the shots in my stomach (lavanox) I notice that bruise take weeks to heal as compaired to taking the pills. Send me a message if you need to chat. I'm not around often but I'll let you know what know if it helps. Good Luck to you! "

" I had side effects from coumadin..my hair fell out in great clumps.. very very scary. I got to the stage where I did not want to wash my hair as my hands would be covered in hair... have been off meds for 4 weeks now and my hair is thin, dry and dull.. not pleasant.. "

" Cramps are often the early warning side of DVT.

It's a good idea to check with your doctor to be on the safe side in case you got a new thrombus forming.

Warfarin does help prevent recurence, but it's not bulletproof. Good hydratation and regular exercise will help.

Ask your doctor if you got positive for factor V or factor II. Those are blood mutation that makes your blood thicker

Any injury will take longer to heal because of poor blood circulation. (as long as the cloth isn't fully dissolved, or if you got sequels)

Exercising will help speed up healing. (because it improve blood circulation). Yoga and running are especially helpfull. Don't do any combat or acrobatic sports thought ;D But cardio and reasonable weight training are ok.

You can try medication like polysporin ointment to help speed up the healing. It worked for me after a bad scratch on my knee.

Good luck ! "

" I kow exact;y what you are talking about, I have bben diagnosed with DVT in July 07 and I have had a few cramps in my DVT leg( right leg).
Generally speaking I get cramps when I do not hydrate enough( for me 3 litres of water a day) and do not have my daily banana (high in potassium), It might be something else, who knows I'm still learning every day about DVT, that monster. "

" Grrr, I forgot to mention, if you,re going to up your water intake, get in touch with your doctor and talk with him/her with the effect this change will have on your INRs, more water may thin your blood (spike your INR).Hope this helps... "
