Cuts and stopping bleeding

Well I finally cut myself. Not much just a knife slice about 1/2 long and just a surface cut not deep. Well it bleed like I cut it off. Pressure did not work well. So i put on a band-aid and wrapped it tight with tape. It stopped until I took off the tape.
Taped it up again. Its been 2 days and it still weeps.

What do all you use to get cuts to closeup.

I asked the pharmacist if that liquid bandage would work . He told me not to use it. No reason just it would not work?

Is there a blood clot powder and something else that will stop bleeding.

I really want something here when I get a real cut vs this little nick.

Thanks
Roger

" I've used a styptic on a shaving cut with success. Hurts like hell but just for a minute.

I understand the same product is available in powder form that can be poured on a cut and bandaged over, but the only place I know about is the vet's office (they use it when they cut a dog/cat's nail too short).

There are clotting powders and clotting bandages that the military uses (with great success) however they are considered medical devices or products and are only to be applied or used by doctors. "

" Hi Roger, when you first cut yourself, pressure and keeping the arm elevated about the heart... for a goodly amount of time helps. I had a cut too wear it kept weeping on and off for a few days. I ended up trying to not change the bandage as often as I'd of liked. Gross I know but it was the only way to keep it from bleeding again.

I do keep the liquid bandaid around too. Not sure why it's not recommended. I'm curious about that. "

" Meow yes I dug up my clot powder from the barn. Yes I have used it for cuts on my horses. Works great. I thought I tossed it but found it after I posted this question.
Can get it from most horse mail order supply outlets.

I see the new Dr Internal Med Monday. I should get more things resolved and I will get into the Coumadin Clinic.. no more vein sticks only the finger.
I will ask him about the liquid skin stuff. "

" I cut my finger two weeks ago on a can that I was opening. It was pretty deep. It bled a lot initially and then oozed for a day and a half. It sucked. Be more careful as I know I will. "

" There's a cool product called Blood Stop that anyone can buy - it's a hemostatic gauze. It's made with cellulose that helps clot up the flow. The company I work with sells them to dentists, but you can find them online. Never checked with Walgreens or CVS - they may have something similar. "
