my son is 17 and has cf. he recently has been complaining about pain in his knee, normally I would not give this much thought and at first I thought of it as maybe just a growing pain type thing. but it has not been going away and now I am getting concerned I have not called the Dr. yet and am still crossing my fingers. has any one experienced any thing like this?

My daughter is 17 with cf. She has pain in her ankles off and on. Sometimes they swell. The doctors can't figure if the cause is cf, cepacia, or meds.

i'm a 30 year old man with cf and have pretty chronic pain in my lower back and knees too. i would imagine its probably the lack of stamina and the fact that calorie intake is so important because with out enough, your body tends to absorb its nutrients where it can get it, which usually means fat stores or possibly bones and joints etc. my knee usually feels like it is grinding together if walk for a great distance. my only suggestion is more exercise and more calories to keep his body up. i can say i'm not very good at that, i've lost weight this year and its not good. good luck.

I have recently been diagnosed with an immuno-complex problem They can not say it was/is CF related because CF patients are living longer and into uncharted teritories. But, there are 2 different kinds of arthritis associated with CF. I would call the Dr. If the Dr is unsure then ask for a CF Rheumatologist. My proble was swollen knees and a red patchy rash on my legs. If you pressed on the patches hurt very much. Not itchy like an allergy. My hands had like pimples on them. Call the doctor I know it is one more thing to watch out for but it is in yours son's best interest.

Benjamin used to take Cipro a lot, and the side effects of that med can be joint pain. He did experience some of that.

I've been on cipro for a number of years and developed joint problems as a result. If I come off it the joint pain goes away, so I know it is the cause in my case. I have been told about early onset of arthritis in some CFers. Hopefully it's not this. My mum had really painful knees and saw a physiotherapist. She was given specific exercises to stregthen the muscles supporting the knee joint. She did these daily and they really helped her. I've found taking Omega 3 and Flax oil can help, as well as Glucosamine.

I'm 19 with CF. I too get joint pain. My docs dont know what its from. Seems to happen right before I get sick or an infection! They think it might be related to that! I'm on and off Cipro, which kinders mentioned, so it could be that!

my son is 18 yrs old and has the same knee problems, it too started when he was 17. great question i never really gave it much thought. I just figured it was growing pains. if he takes aleve it does the trick. he is not on cipro at the moment but has been many many times i dont think the cipro is causing the pain for him. this is so intresting im gonna have him speak with his doc at next clinic appointment

i have had severe knee pain and ankle pain for the past ten years, i also have really bad tendinidious in my left shoulder. one reason for alot of this pain is my 5 years of levaquin taking. they are currently in a big lawsuit with johnson and johnson because they knew the side effects of that med, which includes severe knee and ankle pain along with shoulder tendon problems. I remember taking it and not being able to move for a day or two because of my knees and ankles. The down side to this is you usually take cipro in place of levaquin but cipro also has these side effects but not as severe. any body else took levaquin?
