I am new here and looking for any kind of advice, support, etc. I went in for my physical in December. It was with a new GP and I was complaining about how I just hadn't felt good in a few months. He ran a bunch of bloodwork and my cortisol level came back at 30.5 (normal range topped out at 16) He was concerned about it and ran an ACTH. It was normal, but near the lower end (16.4, I believe). He tried to order a MRI of my pituitary, but my insurance denied it. He then ran fasting insulin and that was normal. Ordered CT of my adrenal glands and that was normal. Ordered a low dose dex suppression test and it came back at 1.0 (I can't remember the range that was acceptable). He said he was convinced from talking to me that I had Cushings, but just couldn't diagnose it. So, he sent me to a endo. I saw her last week. She agreed that it was likely cushings and is ordering more tests. I am actually doing a 24 hour urine test today and they are redrawing cortisol and ACTH in the morning.
I was told that I had PCOS as a teenager. Had multiple laparoscopies that confirmed it (also had endometriosis). I have gained almost 30 lbs since August, have headaches all the time, have had moodiness, fatigue, severe muscle aches. Just don't feel good all the time. I am the mom of two under 5 and work full time, so it is a struggle. I have been overweight since puberty, always having abdominal weight, but it has gotten much worse. I look majorly pregnant all the time now. I do bruise easily, hair falls out constantly. My blood pressure is great, blood sugar is great, cholesterol is great. Nothing that would indicate that I am now 150 lbs overweight. I don't know what to think, what to do, what to expect. Can anyone help? Posted on 02/12/12, 09:56 pm |

I just found out that instead of fibromyalgia which I was diagnosed with since 94', that I have cushing's syndrome. My blood pressure is still high even with my meds, my colesterol is 210. I thought it was the prednisone I take for my lymphodema that was causing my thin skin, skin tears and bruises.
I also thought that my sweating day and night was due to going through menopause. And that my confusion, forgetfulness, and moodiness were also menopausal. I also broke my fibula recently, my doctor was very concerned when I could barely walk anymore, in fact I am in a wheelchair now. I was doing aerobics just a year ago, and walking my dogs. It was actually my incredible thirst that had me going to the doctor since diabetes runs in our family. I explained my tirednes s and all the other weird thing happening to me that had him sitting up and taking notice. He said out of 30 symptoms for cushings syndrome I have 26. I really thought I was falling apart or going crazy from menopause, I even forgot my name a week or so ago, and I was prepared to hear I had, had a stroke. So after test after test and nothing showing up. I tell the doctor that my urine smells funny, but didn't mention it before this because I thought it had to do with diabetes. They found numerous tumors on my adrenal glands in the shape of mushrooms. I have had asthma since I was 5 years old, for over 43 years I have used inhalants, and now I am being told my asthma meds are what caused this. Has anyone else had to stop their asthma meds? I am using Advair now with my proventol as a rescue inhaler. Everything seems to set off my asthma, even brushing my hair. I could not continue working as it felt like my brain was wading through water. I applied for Social Security disability and recieved it the first time I applied. Without my inhalers several things happened to me, I felt less tired right away, I started rehab to get me walking again, and I recently graduated from my wheelchair to a walker. But my legs, lordy my legs are so weak and shakey, just a few steps and my legs are like jelly. I hope to learn a lot from your group.
