UC and skin lesions??

I've had UC for 20+ years but 2 years ago while having a flare, I developed horrible skin lesions that were mainly on my upper arms, back, neck and chest with a few on my thighs. My GI doc had never seen anything like it before and my dermatologist was also baffled. I'm in the middle of another flare and the lesions have returned so it is definitely associated with the UC flare. These start out as medium sized blister looking lesions then become a kind of a raised bubbly ring around a flat center. They can be very painful and can cause fever. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. My docs don't seem to know what to do with it. These did clear up the last time when my UC finally got under control, but it took 18 months for the scars to go away.

Behcets could explain those lesions. Im not saying that is what it is but it can be a cause in rare cases.
Do you ever get mouth ulcers or cold sores?

Yes, I almost always have at least one mouth ulcer. I had a mouthful of ulcers when this last flare started.

I just researched Behcets. That's not what I have. I think I have Erythema multiforme major with the target lesions. Guess I need to make an appointment with my dermatologist this week and see if she'll start me on some antibiotics. Last time, though, she only gave me some corticosteroid cream. Don't really think that helped any. I had some left and have been using that.

During a few of my flare ups I did have eczema on my hands. I had terrible itching on the palm side of my fingers that I would scratch until I bled. Sometimes it looked like my skin was splitting. Oddly enough what ever I had on one hand I had the exact same mark on the other.

Sentient, of course I'm not 100% certain that I don't have Behcet's, but my lesions do not look like the Behcet's lesions and I don't have the eye or genital symptoms. My dermatologist did biopsy one of the lesions the last time I had a similar outbreak and her diagnosis was erythema nodosum, but I don't get the sores on my shins. They are mainly on my upper arms and upper back. My thinking is that, with the UC flare, my immune system is way off and I'm just more susceptible to sepsis and these lesions. From my research, the best way to treat erythema multiforme is to treat the underlying cause. I'm already on Asacol and prednisone and I think the lesions are in the healing stage, so I guess I'll just have to wait it out. That just means wearing long sleeved shirts to hide the ugly things until they go away. I'm also trialing the Great Taste No Pain diet and so far am very impressed. I've no major abdominal pain in the last few days since starting it.
