Tsyabri for Ulcerative Colitis?

Has anyone ever heard of any studies (small studies included) of Tysabri being used for the treatment of UC? I know it has been used for the treatment of Crohns which is similar. Tysabri is obviously not a first line drug due to the black box warning label, but since I also have MS it might be a better option than taking Avonex and Imuran at the same time.

" I was looking at being part of a study group for that drug and its usefulness to treating UC through my doctor's office (at least I strongly suspect it was that drug, they don't give you the name just the components and makeup of it and in my research I concluded it was the same). I opted not to based on the side effects I had with similar drugs (Remicade and Humira- including MS like symptoms from Remicade) and the lack of positive effect those had on my UC symptoms. I didn't tolerate either of those well so it seemed like playing the same card over again. I do know that the study is still being conducted though through the GI practice in Northern Virginia, so I'm sure there are others going on.... "

" Actually Tysabri is nothing like the TNF inhibitors. Its an entirely new method where it affects a transport molecule preventing certain immune cells from crossing certain barriers such as the stomach. "

" Sorry then I confused it with a TNF inhibitor that's currently being tested because it was definitely that and the study was not for this one. And in that case, can't help you. "

" Kelsey, you may have been thinking of cymzia.
Sentient, the black box warning is just too scary for me. When I was on 6mp it shut down my liver and almost killed me, so I am very leary of anything with a black box warning. "

" Hey Fraz,

Alright. They all sound the same now. Imumab this and Imumab that. Tsy's and Cymz's. I remember reading that it was derived from the ovaries of Chinese hamsters and it was at that point that I just thought- really? This is crazy. I'm done. :) "

" Yeah, the black box warning is scary. Then again, so is using both Imuran and Avonex at the same time. I worry about what happens when you start taking multiple powerful drugs vs 1 risky drug that teats both. I wouldnt use it if I only had inflammatory bowel disease. There are no great treatments for MS, but this is one of the more effective ones. "
