I was diagnosed 26 years ago with crohns and was put into remission withing 6-9 months. 3 years later it came back and it has been a roller coaster ride ever since. It finally became so bad in '02 that I had to have a re-section of the small bowel and was told I would probably have to have another one in 5-7 years. Well needless to say my body rebelled early and within 3 years it spread so far and fast that they couldn't go back in so now I'm on a feeding tube, can't work and have managed to fall into a depression that I can't seem to pull myself out of.
The doctors tried several different anti-depressants and most would work for a bit then backfire. We thought we finally hit on one that worked and I felt great!! I felt human again and could half function again. Then wouldn't you know it my hematologist happen to run some regular blood work and found that that my liver counts were elevated. There went the great help out the door!! I'm not suicidal by any means but there are times when I just wish this disease would either go away or send me home. Do any of you ever hit bottom so hard you just want it to end? What to you do to pick yourself back up? Please help Posted on 10/25/09, 04:10 pm |

Well, we've been diagnosed the same length of time and I posted something similar earlier.
I do know from experience that you will have learnt so very much over the years and to have survived you will be stronger than you sometimes feel. There's probably little we can tell you that you don't already know, so I hope it's enough to say that I feel for you so much and understand how very, very, hard it can be. To pick myself up, I usually end up spending - booking a holiday, shopping for pretty things, planning a treat for my hubby and I - bad for the bank balance, but a reasonable sticking plaster. I know it's woefully inadequate, I just try to inject as much nice stuff into my days as I can. I set goals, make lists and write.

I go to the library and get as many different arts and craft books as I can carry, then spend all my free time deciding what to try. I've found out I'm not very good at water color painting, so-so at pencil drawing (but I love it so I still do some), ok at making things from paper mache, and am fairly inventive when it comes to sewing. I don't have money for the more expensive crafts, but when I win the Lotto I have a whole other list of distractions I plan to try. My mother did the same thing and would say "I am keeping myself sane by ignoring my life."
