Yelling at bananas

Ok, a prednisone story.
How sick am I of bananas and avocados?! This steroid rage has really messed with my moods and sanity. I was sooo worked up yesterday morning, and in such a foul mood, I found myself standing in the kitchen, adressing (quite loudly) the bunch of bananas in the fruit bowl, telling them how *sick* I was of them and why couldn't they be a nice bowl of strawberries or something. I wonder if there are many others who would understand that sometimes, just sometimes, yelling at bananas is a good thing. Life is absurd. Posted on 10/20/09, 03:10 am |

Hi Out There,
I am all new to this strange disease that I have just been diagnosed with since August 09. I am 63 and understand that is unusual and somewhat uncommon for my age group. I have just found this site and because of this wealth of information and comments, this will be one of the better days for me. Thanks for the insights that you have shared, I can only slightly relate what many of you all have been going through, obviously for many more years than I can imagine. I had to comment on the Prednisone & Azathioprine demon- mood swings. Have been on Prednisone since late August starting on 280 mg in the hospital, now daily 40mg (am thinking now this starts another flare up, as once before when I was at this dosage). I, too, yell at foods in my kitchen (I think the bananas do answer), but my crying jags are helped by getting the shower and letting loose. I try to do this when no one is home (especially my grandchildren-they freak out). I cry when my husband puts out the garbage and it goes in the wrong can!!!! Talk about bad! What do you all do about sleeping at night, if I get 3 hours I am lucky. Drs have given me Temazepam, but if that is why I can get 3 hours, it isn’t helping. Thanks for being there. I am glad I am not alone. My family is supportive, but they still love the southwest foods and local brewed beer and I just try to grin and bear it. I am just starting!!

Quick note on the sleeping tablets. I resisted them for many many years, but recently the pain has been so bad I just wasn't really sleeping at all for months.
The doctor gave me something called zimovane and the list of side effects put me off for another few months, but I have to say they're marvellous. I take them, go to bed and sleep all night, it's like a miracle. Even when I'm in pain I still sleep all night and I'm able to take half the opiates I was taking. I don't get any side effects and I don't feel "hung over" in the morning. Just my experience, but I find them great. Good luck.

I laugh at your story but I am also concerned. What you are describing is one of the side effects and you might want to ask your Doctor to switch your meds. My daughter had the same effects and she was taken off and put on Entecort which is like the steroid, but without the raging, depression and weight gain.
