I had a hydrogen breath test for bacterial overgrowth that came back inconclusive. My new GI has put me on Augmentin for 2 weeks. I'm also taking probiotics. Has anyone else used antibiotics for treatment of Crohn's symptoms? I have lots of painful bloating.

I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.
thanks

" My doc had me on 2 antibiotics -Cipro and Flagyl last winter. Colonoscopy showed my large intestine was very ulcerated, thought maybe an infection could start. I had an allergic reaction (rash) to the Cipro and I could not tolerate all the nasty side effects from the Flagyl. He wanted me on them for 3 months; I lasted 2 weeks. Not sure how much the drugs helped. I'm currently on Imuran and I also take acidolpholus (sp?) "

" I had liver disease in addition to UC. I would have to take Cipro on a frequent basis. Every time I did my colitis would get better. My doctor and I discussed this and decided that because some stomach ulcers are helped by antibiotics that We would try a very mild anti biotic on a daily basis ( tetracycline). It really helped keep my colitis under control until I finally had colon removed due to cancer threat. "

" Thanks for your replies. I did take Flagyl after I got c-diff in the hospital. I am so afraid of bringing on a flare from the Augmentin. I hope that my fears don't bring it on LOL "
