Last year june 16th I had my first surgery of three and the last surgery was feb 15th.

Reason for the surgery was wall to wall pseudopolyps that would have resulted in my death if not for the surgery.

I am 25 years old and without a colon. I spent a total of one month in the hospital because of each surgery.

If anyone has any questions regarding this, I would be glad to help.

I know I really didn't want to do it and was against it the first time it was brought up some 6 years ago. I am thankful that I got the pseudopolyps which resulted in me getting the surgery, it is by far the best choice I ever made as a person who suffered from colitis.

" For those of you who have put off doing surgery, I do have a message for you.
I don't want to make it sound great or anything so just hear me out.

In the past year(three surgeries) I experienced more pain and suffering then a normal would ever experience in a life time. I was so drugged up that I have blank spots in my memory as I don't even remember most of my recovery. When I think of the bad times it sends shivers down my spine. I cried more then any one person should because of the pain and the stress caused by the surgeries. Nothing prepared me for the surgeries and what I went through, not even the 5 years of torture that I experienced with my sever case of UC. Having said that, if I had the option of going back in time, not only would I do the surgery again without hesitation, I would probably do it the first day they diagnosed me with UC. I will always look at this experience as one the best things I ever did in my life and I will never regret it.

It is all up to you to make that decision, and the sooner you make it the better. All I can say is that you have the power to save your future and no one else. I only lost a year to surgery but I lost 5 years to UC.

I am getting stronger, healthier, smarter, and happier every day. Once I am at 100% (which will happen) there will be nothing that I could not do. The only thing that got me through the whole experience was the hope and the dream of being healthy after the surgeries and there were times that looking ahead even one minute seemed like impossible but I did it. And if you focus on your future you can do it too.

If you have any questions, im still here... "

" Wow! I was so glad to read your message, my doc has mentioned surgery a few times but I am still trying the meds. Just came off Prednisone after 1 1/2 yrs. Remicade didn't work for me so now I am just on the Lialda & Imuran. Doc also keeps talking about clinical trials, but that makes me nervous.
Did you have alot of trouble with Anemia?
I just had my 5th blood transfusion & am having to go for another round of iron infusions. Fun, fun :)
Thanx for being so honest with your info! "

Yes I did, I was given Iron injections which I had to do myself daily. The bruises from the injections in my arms and legs didn't go away for a good 2 years(after I had stopped). It was difficult but I managed to keep my iron level above 80, which is suppose to be anyehere between 135-155 I think. But I could still manage fine as I was used to it. i considered above 100 to be good. After surgery I managed to bring it to 155. "
