Is anyone else either taking Canasa or has taken it before?

I just started on Friday and I am having pretty bad side effects. I have horrible gas and my diarrhea and abdominal pains are worse. I was reading that those are the common side effects, but I was HOPING that they go away with time.

Honestly, I would rather not be on any medication if this is how the medication makes me feel.

Any suggestions? or other medications I can ask my dr about?

THANKS!

" i was on that stuff for a few days and had major cramps and it seemed to make everything worse. UGH.

Canasa I think is in the family of mesalamines- and sometimes mesalamines, despite that they are supposed to help with diarrhea and abdominal pains, often give those exact side effects plus flatulence (I thought this was great as a kid cause I could burp the longest and the loudest and when I did it in front of Mom and Dad I could blame my medication :) ).
Def talk to your GI about that- there are a gazillion different ones- Rowasa is an enema form, Asacol, Pentasa, Colazol, Lialda, etc. I had luck with Pentasa not causing abdominal pain or diarrhea, but that's the only one that's ever worked for me. Be adament about trying a different one with your doc though. There is something to be said for hanging in there for side effects to decrease but when the side effects are what you are trying to stop that is ridiculous. "

" I take Colazal orally, I have canasa suppositories for use as needed, but I only take them when I'm really in pain and have not noticed any side effects. I hope that you are feeling better very soon. "

" Thanks for the advice. I guess I will just stick it out for a couple of more weeks & hope that it gets better. If not, I will def talk to my GI. He said there were alot of options out there, so I guess I'm just going to have to tell him how it's making me feel.

Thanks! "
