I have never taken any other drug for UC/Crohns, but may be starting this medication soon. Does anyone have any experience with this drug? How effective was it? What were the side effects like?

" Hi, it was the first drug I took for UC and it worked really well for me for several years. I had no side effects from it. Like many drugs though, eventually it didn't do the trick any longer and I had to go on something else. But really, I had a good run while on it. "

" I have been taking Colazal for a couple of years. I have not seen any side effects with it. I had been on Asacol before and it didn't really help and my hair fell out. When I start to see blood in the stools I up my dose to 4 caps 3x per day. Once it is under control I can go down to 3 caps 3x per day. I wish you good luck with it! "

" I also have been on colazol for a couple of years and have seen mostly success. No side effects and I seem to be very sensitive to side effects in drugs. Good luck. "

" Colazal was the first drug my GI put me in back in early 2005 when they originally thought I had UC...it really didn't help any of my symptoms ease up any, but I don't remember any bad side effects while taking it. In Dec/05 was finally able to be scoped and found I had crohns, so they switched my meds around. "

" I do have some upper stomach pain sometimes and my father has Crohns, so it would make sense for me to have Crohns instead of UC.

If this treatment doesnt work, I guess we can revisit the Crohns theory. "

" It was one of my first meds for Crohn's. i started on Asacol and the evil pred but was allergic to the Asacol. Switched to Colazal. I had another flare about 8 months later, kept the Colazal, started Pred again and Imuran was added. Colazal was slowly faded out and now I'm just on Imuran. I do not recall having any issues with the Colazal other than I do not know it was effective for me or not. "
