Hi everyone, I'm new to the group I was just diagnosed with Crohn's on July 14 and the doctor put me on entocort. I was just wondering if anyone that took it could give me a ruff estimate of how long it took to work for you? Thank you

Hi, Tiff and welcome to DS. As info, I was diagnosed in February 2007. I'll not go into all the various issues I have had but I will tell you that the last medications I was on for my Crohn's were Prednisone, which I started this past December and took until mid-April, and Entocort which I started in February as I began tapering off the Prednisone. I took Entocort until three weeks ago. The colonoscopy I had on June 19th shows that my Crohn's is in complete remission! How long does it take? That's anybody's guess and depends largely on how severe your symptoms are. Hang in there and give it a chance. I'd also strongly suggest that you ask your doctor about taking probiotics in addition to the Entocort.
Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Hey there. Entocort helped ease my symptoms but never put me in remission. I heard there is something called steroid dependent CD. I wanted to avoid that so I ended up going with a biologic drug called remicade. It worked for me and works well for a large number of people. But I think trying a more conventional treatment like steriods is the way to go before bringing out the big guns if you can avoid them.

I was on Entocort was I was initially diagnosed in July of '06. It put me into remission until I got back to work and was under a lot of stress. I was put back on it in December of '07. Worked for awhile but then nothing would work and I ended up having surgery this May. I have felt great ever since. But Entocort was a lifesaver for me.

Thanks I am looking forward to see how it works. I reacted to Remicade really bad, so this hopefully will help. My doctor is also going to put me onto 6-MP as well, which I tolerated before.
I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1988 and they think I have had it active since 1979. So I am what my doctor calls a Crohn's vet. If Remicade works and you are not responding to other treatments then try it. It did work, but gave me really bad side effects so we are going that way. I was in remission for 5 years, so we hoping to get me there again. I think figuring out diet helps alot. After 2 years gluten free my doctor thinks my medication response maybe much better than before.
