Steroid Enema vs. Rowasa Enema?

Hi,
I've used steroid enema's in the past with some success for my UC. Has anyone gone from Steroid Enemas to Rowasa Enemas and had positive results? I've been trying to figure out which one might be "stronger" than the other and it seems that steroid enemas would be the stronger option but I'm not sure. Also, Rowasa is listed as a mesalamine (sp?) which is also something taken in pill form. Do the enemas sometimes reach the last few inches that the pills could not? Anybody have any ideas experience there? Thanks! Posted on 06/29/12, 02:42 pm |

I've used Asacol (mesalamine ) enemas before and they worked very well for me. I think they work exactly as you wrote, getting that those last few inches that the pills can't get.

yes, if your worse inflammation is at the end, like mostly in the rectum, the mesalamine enemas are great. they work a little better than the suppositories. I prefer them to pills, which make me constipated, but right now, i am supposed to be using all 3 - enemas at night, suppositories in morning and pills 4x/day.

They also have it in a suppository form called canassa. It's easier to retain.
