I was diagnosed with UC a year ago. I have not taken my medication because I cannot afford them. Yes, I have insurance, but a very high deductible so I can afford the premiums. My deductible is higher than the cost of the medication, which isn't covered until after the deductible is met. Sooooo, I cannot take advantage of the low cost or free offers for medication. (Because I have insurance). I am so frustrated. I am having a flare now. It is not too bad yet, but I am afraid it will get worse. I feel like I can't call my doctor because I am non-compliant with my medication. Please help! :(

You should talk to your doctor and let him know what's going on with you. He may be able to help you get the meds. If I were you, I'd keep searching the Web for help with the cost of the meds. I'm pretty sure I saw some sites that help the "under insured" as well as the uninsured." Your pharmacist may be able to give you some leads, too.

I appreciate your answer. After I got out of the hospital, I was taking the medication with help from my mother. Like I said, I had to stop because of the cost. I tried for 3 months to find a program that would lower the cost of the medication. I even went to the Canadian drug sites (they don't have the medication I was prescribed). I filled out 3 applications from different companies, and was denied because of being "insured". I was hoping someone out there would be able to suggest something different. Thank you very much for your help.

I am going through the same exact thing. My deductible is 3 times the cost of my meds. I called my GI doctor and he gave me a whole month supply for free and said as long as they have a supple in the office, I can get them. Try medtipster.com it's a site thats supposed to find the cheapest prescriptions. The medication I am currently on is not available on that site but hopefully it works for you! :)

Could you contact the drug company directly and ezplain your problem with insurance etc? Maybe they can help you some way.
Not such an effective insurance pan if you pay into it but can't get what you need. Have you spoken to the insurance company...any chance of getting on a different plan that suits your needs better? Good luck, Wendy

Have you considered Medicade? I also take probiotics on top of my other meds. i think they help esp. with digestion. My stomach doesn't get upset as often as it did before.
