Advice:
Dizzy on Imuran?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
I started the Imuran a week ago. My blood tests show that I'm one of those people who metabolise it really slowly - some enzyme test or other - so if I *do* stay on this I can only be on low dose. Currently only at 25mg.
I'm getting really itchy crawly skin, and just today have started getting really dizzy and spinny. Would that be the Imuran or the prednisone... or both? Should I be worried about this?
Of course, the prednisone is making me have panic attacks so it all probably seems much worse than it is.

I feel awful.

" I would call your doctor's nurse. I take 150 mg/day of Imuran and the main side effect that I experience is fatigue. I started taking it in the evening so that if I am fatigued, I can just go to bed.

I don't know what you weigh but 25mg is a very low dose of Imuran, so if your dizziness is from that, there may be an allergy or something especially with the itchy skin (but I am not a doctor).

I do know that when I was speaking with my doctor about Imuran (my liver enzymes were slightly elevated) he said it is one of those risk reward things. He said you can take the Imuran and deal with the side effects, or you can not and deal with the Ulcerative Colitis; which the UC is the worse of the two in my opinion.

I hope this helps, call your nurse, that is why they are there.

Good luck "

" I took imuran for 12months and found that it unfortunately did not work for me. I never got dizziness or anything like that on it however when on prednisone I literally went nuts and would hallucinate and get really dizzy, not to mention the maniac periods! From my experience I would say it's the prednisone however everybody is different and if it's worrying you go see your doc :) "

" Emma,
I think that you should call your doc asap. The ichyness could be an allergic reaction. Keep us posted! "

" Certainly talk to your doctor about these side effects your having. There are other drugs if you choose to take the meds that can make a difference. "

" Thanks folks. I'm suspecting the dizzyness is a prednisone-related thing. It's dropped off a lot and I'm still only on the 25mg low dose. I see my GI again on Friday after my second set of blood tests. He didn't call me up in a panic after the first lot, so I think it's settling ok at the moment. Will find out more on Friday. Thanks! "
