I had recently cut put dairy in my diet, since i am in the middle of a flare up, and it has helped so much. If you get a lot of gas during a flare up or a lot of cramps, this really helped me. I mean, it didnt cure it, but it helped me out a lot!

" Soy is supposed to be bad too during flares because it is high fiber. "

" I thought cutting out dairy would help me but it turns out I'm much more sensitive to soy. Thank goodness because I love cheese! Plus, there are all sorts of good reasons to eat live culture yogurt. However, I have tried sticking to only low-fat dairy and that seems really helpful. "

" I use the Lactaid Ultra fast acting- and can tolerate the dairy stuff really well- which is good, because right now I'm pretty much on smooth, soft, squishy bland stuff.... "

" Try almond milk instead. Soy products have a chemical in them that mimics estrogen and it negatively affects the colon. People with IBD would be best to avoid both dairy and soy. Rice, almond and oat milk are better choices. Can't say much for the rice milk (thought it was too thin) but the almond milk is pretty good! "

" I am lactose intolerant. It happened about the same time my Crohn's/U.C. started. ( The doctors speculated one triggered the other, but no guess on what order.) I have to read labels because you never know where you will find it. Avoid buttermilk breads and homestyle stuff. It usually has milk. The breading on chicken and fish frequently has lactose in it. I know not why it is there, I just try to find it. Some medications have lactose as a filler, by the way, so be sure to tell your Dr. if you are lactose intolerant.

Here in the southeast U.S. Ingles supermarket brand Laura Lynn Lactose-Free milk comes in regular, 2%, and fat-free. It is much better than soy milk. Breyer's makes a lactose-free ice cream that is good. There is also another brand sold by the quart that is soy based and pretty good, but I cannot think of the brand at the moment.

Good luck. "

" I find I'm very lactose intolerant ONLY during a flair. I can still eat my homemade yogurt, which is lactose free, and some very hard cheeses (in moderation) which have little to no lactose.

I agree with mmccaus, stay away from soy. "
