Quadruple Bypass

Hi, I am 35, and have been diabetic for almost 20 years. I was an idiot and smoked on and off for a number of years. I recently went to my doctor with chest pain and shortness of breath. That led to a bunch of tests, which resulted in an Angiogram, showing major blockage in my arteries. I had no choice but to have a quadruple bypass. I have been home from the hospital for two days now and feel pretty good. I just get tired very fast. What scares me the most is that I have a 13 month old son, and I want to be around for him. I am hoping this was a wake up call, and will be a new chapter in my life, and my life will only get better. I am just worried that I will need further surgery down the road as I get older and that scares the hell out of me. Any words of wisdom??

" Hi, I am sorry to hear of all of your problems. I hope you are into some kind of rehab program where monitored exercise is available. I think if you fix your diet and your lifetime exercise schedule, you will be ok and not have to redo surgery. It is difficult, but once you realize the importance of diet and exercise, it becomes easier. Best of luck. "

" exercise, diet, medication, checkups, those are starting points. I had by-pass 6 years ago (5x). I found that the first two months were the roughest do to stents in my leg had to be done a month after surgery. Hardest and most painful parts of recovery was coughing and walking. Could not bend my left leg to go up and down three flights of stairs. Hope you live on a ground floor (or at least own your own place). I you eat right and exercise you should be OK. I have emphysema along with severe cardio-vascular disease. Make it hard on humid days or very cold days to go outside to take a walk. Being I have a small place, exercising at home is out of the question. Good luck and follow doctors orders. "
