My legs are scaring me....

About a week ago, one morning when I walked down the stairs my hip sockets were giving me severe pain. I passed it off to arthritis, but at the same time my knees and ankles felt like they were being squeezed and I had intense itching on my left leg. I was noticing swelling before this, now the last two nights I have a grotesque looking left leg, it became large, especially behind my knees and ankles. The left leg is badly affected but my right leg has the same thing, only to a lesser degree. I am currently waiting on a nuclear stress test app't. I don't know if I should call my cardiologist since he did an ultrasound on my legs and he told me that the tests were normal.
I'm frightened to look at my leg get bigger all day long and don't know if this is serious or not.
