Hello!
I'm not only depressed and frustrated because at 41 years old, I never thought I'd feel this tired and fatigued. Apparently, the medication I take for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) may make me depressed. So, I'm already depressed and now I'm even more so on top of just being tired all of the time. UGH Needless to say, I feel like giving up. I don't know what to do anymore. I sleep as much as I can, I've been cutting down a lot on the caffeine and I'm still fatigued and now really depressed. I became engaged recently and things with my fiance are going down the tubes....it's like everything is falling apart. AHHH. I guess I really don't know if I'm asking for advice or just want sympathy or both.... Posted on 02/25/09, 12:02 pm |

Hi !
I can relate to what you are going through. My fiance and I have gone through the same thing. I can keep my depression under control most of the time through positive thinking. I read stories on this site that make my problems look trivial. I have learned to pace myself to reserve energy . My doctor thought I was joking when I told him I needed a shock to my butt from my ICD just to get moving some times. It looks like you are starting in the right direction getting your HCM under control. Have you talked with the HCMA ? It is the best place to get information about HCM. Hang on it will get better ! If I can do it anyone can...GOOD LUCK and BEST WISHES to you and your fiance.

Are you on a beta-blocker medication. These meds usually have the letters -ol at the end of their names. They can cause depression in a lot of people, but do not go off of them!!! You can talk about it to your doctor.
Many people with heart disease do go through a period of depression after diagnosis. There is so much to deal with. Limitations on your activities, fear of so many things, plus the generally cruddy way that you feel...It is a lot to cope with. Seek out information and support. The American Heart Association has support groups, maybe check out what is available in your area. Blessings on you and I hope that this has been helpful, diane
