My dad just finished his chemo for his colon cancer and his hands and feet hurt and are numb. Has anyone else experienced this? What helped? Did it ever go away? He is having a harder time with this than he did with the actual chemo.

This is a side effect of certain drugs. It may go away but if it is severe the doctor should be advised. If all the cycles of chemo have been concluded that's one thing but if there are further cycles to be done, the dose of the drug might be modified depending on the experience of this time.
I've not experenced this myself, but it was one of the published sideeffects realted to the drug which was proposed to be used in my 2nd round of chemo.

Yes my dad suffered from these symptoms too. He said that his hair hurt and his doctors said it was from the drugs.
Hang in there!

Yes, I am going through my chemo treatments now. My treatmeny Flofox and one of the two chemos called oxaliplatin can cause nerve sensations (peripheral neuropathy). Usually 2-4 days after my treatment I experience tingles and some numbness in my fingers and feet. Cold touch will feel like cut glass. The good nes for me is that it subsides prior to the next treatment. From what I've been told the side effects should totally go away after I stop chemo treatments. Hope this helps and give your dad the thumbs up. One last thought, has he finished all his treatments?

I saw a article in the newspaper here in my area about a new natural supplement that is really getting some great results with the burning hands and feet after chemo. It's called Chemolyte Recovery. I don't know the web site off the top of my head but the article was very encouraging.

they stopped one of my drugs 2 chemo's before I was going to finish. I am still numb on my fingers / toes and it hurts. My doctor said its like when you get iceburns from snow, it gets worse before it gets better - if this makes sense. Its the nerve ends that is the cause and I advice anyone who has this to tell their doctors, especially if they havent finished treatment.
