Sorry this is such a long post.

A friend of my Mum's has just told her that she has been having rectal bleeding on and off for about a year. She didn't say anything at first as when she had her first child she developed Haemaroids. But now she's been to the doctors and this is not the case this time.

She's not developed frequent rectal bleeding, stomach cramping, which can also be at the sides and in her back too. She has been added to the list to have a colonoscopy at the hospital but as this is the UK, the waiting lists are rediculous and she may wait months.
She is going back to the doctor tomorrow to try and get the appointment brought forward as an emergancy.

From what I have researched so far polyps usually only cause rectal bleeding but together with stomach pains it can be a sign of colonal cancer.
The thing is...she's also now in the past couple of days started vomitting blood too. If it is cancer, is this a sign that it could have spread to the stomach?

I understand you can't jump to conclusions but any information would be much appreciated.

" My wife is 32 she was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the end of last year (oct) .She too had many of the symptoms you have discribed. she first got the symptoms at the start of the year (jan) the docters kept palming her off! Eventually she got that bad they had to send her for an MRI scan. And EUREAKA! they found a tummor the size of a tennis ball. The symptoms could be nothing to do with cancer but my advise to you and your mums friend is to make as much noise as you can to the docters, they too make mistakes don't just take their first answer. Keep positive and all the best! "

" Bliss I understand why you are looking for answers but you must remember that we are not doctors. The one thing I have found out from this site is that colon cancer presents in many forms. Some have bleeding, some have bloated feeling some have not symptoms, personally I had a change in bowel movement and that was the only symptom.

Bliss it is very important to have the doctor perform the tests and give a definite answer, I believe all I will do giving you advice is cause worry and there may be no reason to worry at all.

Take care G8 "

" My symptoms were not that obvious. The first doctor I saw about my symptoms of severe constipation said "what do you want me to do about it?" Seriously! I felt stupid for going to the doctor about it and waited 3 years to ask again. Please, don't let the doctor ignore your mom's friend. Annoy the heck out of the doctor. "
