I am starting chemo 5 flu today, via pump. I will get chemo continuosly for 5 days, then off for 4 weeks, and then back on for 5. Has anyone else had this type of chemo? did you loose your hair? did you feel sick?
I am wondering if I should order a wig and scarves now or not. I will start tx this morning. Posted on 09/22/09, 08:09 am |

Hi Scobb, My chemo treatment was Oxaliplatin, Leucovorin & 5-FU. It was a three day treatment every other week. My body over reacts to all medications, so my side effects from these drugs was pretty bad, some people have very little reactions. I was sick and tired and I did loose most of my hair, but that's me. I wear a wig and scarves when I'm out. Everyone reacts differently. I'm going in today, wed & thur for my last chemo, yay!!! Then have my picc line removed on thur, I can hardly wait. God has been with me this whole time, He has healed me, He is the Great Physician, my faith and hope is in Him. Trust Him to carry you through this chemo mess.

I did NOT lose my hair. It thinned a bit but also grew fast. I'm only one month out from chemo and I can see loads of 2 inch long hairs. If you look at my avatar photo, that is after my 10th treatment with two more drugs than you listed. I also took the triple cocktail GG mentioned, known as Folfox.
I wouldn't order a wig. Yes. 5 FU made me very tired and weak for a few days after being disconnected. I only got it for 46 hours every two weeks. I felt sick to my tummy one day after my 11th and 12th tx but did not throw up. Again, anal cancer is treated very differently than rectal or colon cancer. Your chemo and treatment will be geared toward your needs. Hang in there!
