I have stage 4 colon cancer, I have been battling it for 4 years. When I was initially diagnosed the cancer was already a stage 3, and I had very little symptoms of the disease. The cancer spread to my liver about one and a half years ago and recently (February 2009) my CAT Scan showed the cancer has spread to my lymph nodes. I took 4 rounds of chemo and the Dr. did another CAT Scan and determined the cancer was not responding to chemo and had actually grown. He came up with another "cocktail" and I've had two treatments and I don't feel like this one is working either. This is the only chemo regimen left for me to try, as I've already taken all the others. I've tried to research and find answers about the progression of this disease with out treatment and can't find anything. I go to see my Dr. on Tuesday, 6/23/09, and am considering stopping all treatment because I'm feeling all the horrible side effects without any results.
There is no family history of any type of cancer, and we check back 3 generations on each side, so I don't have anyone in my family I can ask questions. They depend on me for answers because none of us has ever had to be a caregiver or been a patient. This is the first time I've reached out to a support group but I can't find the answers anymore. Please help...... Cheryl Posted on 06/21/09, 09:06 pm |

Cheryl,
I, too, was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in April of this year. No history and healthy as can be, a trip to the ER and a CT Scan later I got the news and had surgery to try to remove the tumor but they couldn't so I am on chemo treatment as well. I am on Oxiplatin and Xeloda and I am on my second round. I did okay on round one, round 2 I had some side effects for like 3 days but they subsided and I started to feel better. You did the right thing joining this support group, they have been so nice to me and so very supportive. I am sorry if I don't have the right answers here but I hope and pray that you find a cocktail of chemo that best works for you!

Thank you so much for your reply. Good luck with your treatment. I took that treatment before so if you have any questions I will be more than happy to let you know my experience.

Cheryl first up welcome to our site glad you found us. There are numerous people here who have or who are having all types of chemo cocktails so hopefully one will be able to help.
This is also a good place if you just need to vent and let the world know how angry frustrated you are. But most of all it is a fantastic site to just feel you can be you. I wish you well in your treatment and that the right answers come your way. G8

Hi Cheryl, and welcome to the group. I had stage 3+nodes, surgery followed by 12xFolfox+Oxaliplatin. Finished chemo last Dec and clear so far. This site helped me through some 'moments' during my chemo, and it's been a place I have felt safe to share my experiences among friends.
It really did keep me sane, and I've learnt so much about living with cancer that you just can't read in a pamphlet. I'm truly humbled by the warmth and love displayed in this group. Cheryl, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Coogee xxx
