My boyfriend was recently diagnosed with a large villous adenoma. This type of tumor typically becomes malignant. He will be having colon resection soon and I was wondering if anyone here has had the same surgery and what was your recovery like. Since age can be a factor in healing if your comfortable sharing it wold be appreciated.

" hi hn, and welcome to DS, so sorry to hear about your boyfriend. I had a resection done laparscopically in march 2010, and have had no side effects since, my scar is tiny. I'm in the UK so different protocol than the US, i was in hospital about a week, with good pain meds so was comfortable all the time. Started with fluids for a couple of days then slowly introduced solids, then took it easy for a few weeks, unfortunately my cancer had spread and needed chemo, but the resection wasnt that bad and been fine since, good luck to you both. " Hi Mel, My resection was in May 2010. I had 60% of my colon removed ( Right side). The one thing I will say is Ive realized not to eat too much before going out. The urgency to go comes on quick and it is harder to hold it for long. That would be my one and only issue. Other than that... I eat what I want , I just am always concious of where a bathroom is if needed.
I hope this helps somewhat. All the best to you and your boyfriend Karen "
