I am a 24 year old and I am married with two children. I recently went back to school to get my bachelors degree in Chemistry. While I was in school I was a really smart student and now all of these years later I am having a hard time in college. I am having a hard time focusing on school and making it through my second semester in college and I am really ready to throw in the towel. The situation is really stressful and I can barely find time to do my work. Its not that I cannot comprehend it is that I don't have the time or determination any longer. Anyone going through this. Can anyone offer any support or advice?

You're intelligent. Keep going! Keep trying! You can do it. You just have to keep yourself super organized and plan out everything in advance as much as possible.
I dont have any really good advice for you since the only thing you can do to improve at school is put in more effort ... hope everything turns out well.

Don't give up. You do have a busier life than I do, but I do know what you are dealing with, concerning going back to school. I am 54, just started taking one class at a time, and OMG it is hard, and time consuming, and this last class I feel so dumb. The next one is algebra, and I have never had any high school algebra, so I am in real trouble. I do feel like giving up too, but I am into the financial aid too far to do that, and have it count for nothing.
Look at it as a way to make your future better for you, and your kids, and show yourself somehow you can do it. I KNOW it is so hard, and time consuming. I have to go do mine now. Yikes!!! Good luck.

Don't give up!!! School is not easy with little ones and we ALL get frustrated at times. As mothers we as students face many different challenges than the typical college student and I always tell myself one day at a time!
I have 3 little ones myself and am starting a FT school program in Aug. I have however been in school since age 25 when I just had one and he was about 6mos old. For myself I find my kids give me the drive to do well because now its for them as well as me:) But there are times when I am like am I nuts....3 kids, little to no help, and FT school! SO again I take it day by day which helps with my stress level!

Hi I can so relate to your post. I am the mother of 5 and know that it can be real hard to have a family and school. Hang in there though it is worth it. Sent small goals and reward yourself when you reach them. For me I found the best time to study is when the kids are in school or when they went to bed. Hang in there semesters will start going by faster and you will be done before you know it.
Hang in there try to make time when it is quite even though I know that can be hard and when your a mom there is always a million other things you need to do. Sometimes letting some small things go is ok. If you need to study for a test put things on note cards and carry them with you. 5 minutes here and there adds up and you will learn and retain things. I hope you hang in there and find a way to stay encouraged. Good luck.

If it makes you feel better I really know how you feel! I know I'm smart...I started off doing really well, but now it's just getting SOOOOOO stressful. I've been having non-stop anxiety for the past week. College is SO hard. I feel like I just can't take it anymore. I missed 3 classes this entire week. I'm barely getting Cs in half my classes. I'm not giving up though. Never give up! Stay determined.
2 things I've been doing that kind of help are 1 I've been seeing a counselor regularly at school. I just rant to her about all my problems. And 2 everytime I get the chance, I go for a long walk in a forest preserve. It's really peaceful and meditative, and being around nature is a good way to get away from everything.

Keep going, I have had so many times I wanted to give up. To be honest I had a final today that I can say is making me feel pretty low right now but if I make it through this I will make it.
Just hang in there and believe you can do it.

Oh boy do I understand. I know this is smart to try to better myself, and I know maybe if I do make it I will be glad, but for now, I do wish I could just stop for good, it is hard getting your head into it when there is so many other demands on my life. I do feel your pain. I went back after raising my family, getting divorced, having grandkids, and oh, I think it has been too many years, this head is not in the frame of mind to care about atoms and molecules, or why I need algebra to do the job I would eventually get, which has nothing to do with most of what we have to take.
You are 24, with a whole life ahead of you to work, it is probably more prudent for you to do this, than me. I am 30 years older than you. I just want to forget it, but once you are obligated to the loans you are stuck. At 24, you better find a way to do something to make sure you can make money for you and your family....if I had back then, I wouldn't be in the situation I am in now. I am barely making it, lost my job, lost my home and car. So, even though it is Really hard, I would say for you, don't give up, for me, I would just rather not.

i suffered a depressive spell in my 2nd year and it was such a jump in difficulty i found it hard to cope and i took a break from my study for me it was the right desicion, but i would not throw in the towel so drastically, i think alot of people at some stage feel the pressure and lack of motivation, but once you get through it you will feel great, even thought it may seem your not working to your best sometimes you have to just get it done and accept. good luck
