I can't focus anymore.

You know how sometimes, you can know something without really having to study very much? It's almost as if you weren't learning the subject, but rather remembering that subject. Before college, learning was pretty much like that for me. Not for everything, mind you. Just for English. In other subjects, I had to focus hard to understand concepts. I did pretty well, I think.
Except I can't focus anymore. I'm at the point where 'remembering' can't help me anymore. Besides that, although English Literature is my strongest academic subject, I chose to go into a major that focuses on math, one of my worst subjects. I've been told I should switch majors, but I love, love, love this major. I love math, but I'm rubbish at it. But, as much as I try, I can't focus on my work. My mind always wanders, I get bored easily, and so my grades plummet. When I see my grades falling, I pick up the slack, but this vicious circle is causing my GPA to suffer. I don't know what to do. How do I keep my attention on my work? Because I'm good at English Literature, I have been told to change majors (no specific major has been named, but all of them have been majors that our School of Liberal Arts offers). But I really don't think that's a solution. The liberal arts courses at my school are easier for me to do, yes, but they aren't what I want to do, which is why I'm sticking to the major that I'm in right now. Is it bad to just want to succeed in what I'm trying to do right now? Posted on 04/27/09, 03:04 pm |
