Hello everyone I have a dilemma or perhaps a better word will be a decision to make. I attend a very prestigious historically black university called Hampton University in Hampton, VA. Hampton is a small campus where you have seen everyone at least once. There is nothing in the city of Hampton to do but drink and go to the same parties every week. I never wanted to go to Hampton University, my family wanted me to apply, one thing went to the other and I decided to attend and enjoy the very new experience. Another reason why I went is because it has a good nursing program. Well, as semesters went on I despised the school more and more, and with every semester I told myself that it was going to get better, but it never did. Hampton was never my ideal school but I thought to myself just to deal with it and that I’m here for the education and just to suck it up. But now I’m at the point that I get so irritated that I don’t even like to talk, I hate being around the people in my campus. I was thinking I should transfer to another school the only problem is I don’t know if it’s best. I don’t have that many friends…like I have 3 good friends and some other ones so it’s not like I will be leaving my whole world behind If I decide to transfer. But I don’t try to make friends anymore or do anything actually; I lack the motivation and desire to make new friends. I don’t know if I’m sabotaging myself were I make myself hate Hampton , or if it’s honestly the environment I’m in… CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!?!?!

Hampton University is a really good. If i hated my school I dont believe I would have stayed. Especially considering that Hampton is really expensive and going away to college is suppose to be fun. I always wished I went away to school and the only reason I never transferred was bc I didnt want to loose the maojirty of my credits nor did I want to have to take out loans (my family doesnt help me w/ any of my expenses).
You can try making a list of the things that are good about the school, the things you like and the things you dislike. And depending on your outcome maybe that could be a good indicator to help you decide. I personally dont believe it makes sense to stay at a school if you're totally unhappy there. There are other schools with really good nursing programs. I strongly suggest you decide if you're going to transfer sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the less sense I believe it makes for a person to transfer. I hope this information was helpful. I saw that no one responded and didnt want you to feel like no cared. Good luck!!!!

I'm sure your not sabotaging yourself completely. As you said before, you tried to deal with it because you know youre really there for your education. That said, the environment can have a huge impact on our moods and actions. Have you always been the type that doesnt try to make friends? If so, I suppose you shouldn't really worry that it's the environment. Of course, that might only cement your reasons for not wanting to make friends (I dont make friends at my school because I hate almost everyone there). But if you used to be the super outgoing social type that would try and make friends, it might be the environment of hampton or the college scene in general. Either way if you're not happy there, I would suggest switching.
Presitigious usually means expensive, so if you're going to be paying out the ass to attend this place, you better damn well enjoy it (my opinion of going to college). If you do transfer, though, make sure you do TONS of research on the school. And don't just trust what the school says, look for students reviews on it as well (they can be very revealing). Because I mean, you wouldn't want your new school to turn into another Hampton experience. I hope this helped, and if you want anymore advice msg me :]
