Hey you guys
A new basic science study published reveals very interesting facts about why the flu is worse in the winter: 1) A finding by a team of scientists at the National Institutes of Health may account for why the flu virus is more infectious in cold winter temperatures than during the warmer months. 2) Here are the facts: At winter temperatures, the virus's outer covering (or envelope) hardens to a rubbery gel that shields the virus as it passes from person to person. 3) With warmer weather the protective gel melts to a liquid phase and this liquid isn't tough enough to protect the virus against the elements. THE RESULT IS the virus loses its ability to spread from person to person in warm weather. Interesting....it does give them new targets for treatment and vaccine... Dr O. Well that is a bit contradictory to the cold weather to kill off all the bugs.
I think mainly it is the coughing and sneezing in public place that helps spread it around so quickly.

I have wondered about this. With the sealed buildings and controlled climate air conditioning in the summer, people are just as close and closed in all day long. And if the flu only spreads in cold weather, why is it starting now when the temperatures are still in the 80s and more. I have wondered about this, if it’s a cold weather bug, why is it so deadly in places like India. Maybe India gets colder than I think.
Some new studies are linking a deficiency in vitamin D to the flu and other illnesses. The levels of vitamin D has been lowering for decades and is at its lowest point now in people. Many or even most people don’t get enough vitamin D at all in their food and most foods don’t even have much if any vitamin D in them. In the winter when the flu gets worse, the sun is low and in most of the northern hemisphere we don’t get any vitamin D from the sun. So the new studies are thinking that low levels of vitamin D are a major cause of getting the flu. I am starting to wonder. This is a good article about the new studies of vitamin D and how it is really needed by our body. http://tinyurl.com/mdowvy
