My husband has drank for quite a few years now, I have grown apart from him and I want to move on but I am stuck.

Have you talked to anyone about this? Counseling or Al Anon are great resources. I divorced my husband for this very reason, it was a very difficult decision, but the best for me in the end.

I am new to this site and am finding some helpful information but lacking the courage to get closure. When I think I am ready to end it, fall backwards. I am a member of Al Anon as of today in here and am hoping to find some answers.

As a member of Al-Anon, I am sure you are aware that the answers to problems like these, when to go or to stay or how to do either one in serenity are in the Steps. Have you done them with a sponsor yet? If not, I highly suggest you complete them with a sponsor before you make a decision to stay or leave your marriage. They teach us about ourselves, and without that knowledge, we are fumbling in the dark.

Grace,
How do I do that, get a sponsor? Is it possible to do that one here?

This is not a recovery group; this is a website that people post on regarding their experiences with codependency. A 12-step recovery group is committed to healing codependency in one way; by working the 12 steps as a recovering community, meeting every week or more in meetings where the purpose is to develop loving and healthy relationships with one's self, one's higher power and others. The tools of 12-step recovery are meetings, literature, sponsorship and service.
Finding a sponsor is done by going to several different meetings, listening to someone who has solid recovery, and who is working the 12-steps themselves with a sponsor. If you hear a person of the same sex sharing in a way that shows that recovery and they have completed their steps at least once with a sponsor, you approach that person and ask them if they would be willing to sponsor you. Many meetings in Al-anon have an attendance sheet where people indicate their willingness to sponsor.

Hi Grace,
Thank you for that information, not to sound like a total idiot, but I just don't know that much about Al-Anon and how it works and seeing how my focus has been on trying to get my husband to go to meetings and taking care of what my daughter needs i should have been checking up on a program like this because it sounds like something that might help point me in the right direction that my daughter and I need to be heading in. Thanks again Grace.
