I am codependent and obsess over things. Triffle matters become huge in my mind and I can't think about anything else. So, today I decided that for 5 minutes (and I set the timer) I would think about a person I who has dominating my thoughts. I would think every thought I could about him, have imaginary conversations with him, just let him take over my brain for 5 minutes. So I pressed the timer and started with my thoughts and concerns regarding him. When the timer marked 2 minutes, I had nothing left to say or think. So I turned off the timer and had a great day. If thoughts of him creeped into my mind, I would push them aside and remind my self that tomorrow I will allow myself 5 minutes again, so I can think about him then! I know...crazy...but I had a great day!

" Oh my god obcessive thinking with drive you crazy this is a great idea.
I don't know if it is just our need to control others or the a ego trip thinking you can fix things for others. I tried the give it to god thing but I take it back. this sounds like when I use to dread going to work in the evening and it would ruin my day so I set a clock for one hour before work and then i could go about my day. thanks i will definately use this. " I've been doing this for three days now...and the obsession is fizzling out. Thoughts still creep in, but less now. And I do mentally tell myself "not now, save it til tomorrow when you can have your obsession fix"... after that I do "give it to God" and do not take it back! Silly mind games.., but if they bring me more sanity and serenity - I will continue. I wouldn't share this with "normies" who don't have codependent tendencies like we do! But it's nice to know you guys "get it." "
