I went to my first real meeting today ... I have been clean for almost 2 months now and because everyone keeps telling me that meeting are the way to go I tried one.

Well after getting out of the meeting ( and during the meeting ) I was really thinking that it just wasn't for me. Its kinda like an out of sight out of mind matter. I am afraid that it might make me wanna use. I havent even had a thought of using until I went to this meeting tonight.

I guess I am just wondering if anyone else can relate & if anyone has any suggestions or feedback.

" hi tiffany,i dont think ur the only one that feels or has felt this way..i;ve gone to many, many meetings and i have met those that say to them they feel triggered by them somehow..i never got this because when i came in to my first meeting my feeling was that i was safe..i dont know whether it was the people there or not or just my willingness for something to help me..there is a saying at every meeting at the end they say''dont take it home with u''if u decide to go to another one i would use this as my cue to tell them how the meeting made u feel and what bothered u and what is bothering u..also there are all different kinds and dont be afraid to share..i've dumped out a lot over the years but theyve helped keep my head on straight ..for me if i feel i may relapse it is the safest place for me to be..though i havent felt like that in a long long while ..so they must be doing something for me i needed..o- CONGRATS on 2mos clean..good job.. " I used to say the same thing but for me it was just an excuse. Actually we are addicts and no matter what we are going to think about getting high alot, so it's better to have support and people around you that have been there and can help you along the way to freedom from drugs. I was told to listen to the simalaritys not the differences and know that we all think about getting high no matter how long we have been clean. Try not to listen to how or what people got high on and listen to how they got and stayed clean. "

" You addiction is talking crap to you. There is no way you can make any assesment from one meeting. And if you use its your choice no one elses, or no place. I hated the meetings and the people, but I did not want to live the way I was anymore. at 2 months and doing this white knuckle (by yourself) no wonder your ready to use again its a miracle you haven't already.

Use a different approach this time, and not listen to your own head. People here and at meetings know a little something of what they share. "

" Welcome to recovery!! Meetings are an integral part of your recovery. Just make sure you go to meetings that are solution based, not how was my day based. Find a Big Book Study meeting to attend, as an addict we have to do lots of counter intuitive things, when our head says "this isn't working" look for the why, what kind of fear or resentment are you feeling at that moment. You should hear hope and a solution in a Recovery meeting whether it is AA, NA, or CA. Good luck on your journey "
