Im 18 years old and was born with a cleft lip and palate. I've struggled my entire life with it and as a result am very insecure.
I've never ever met anyone like me. Am i the only one here? I mean i see posts where people say their young relatives are getting surgery and stuff. BUt is there anyone out there my age thats gone through what i have? Any one i could relate to? Posted on 09/28/09, 09:09 pm |

Um, I am 18 too. I was born with a Cleft Palate and Lip and have had about 9 surgeries up til now. I know exactly what you mean about the insecurity.
My mom also has a cleft palate and lip so I feel as though I should have someone there, but she avoids talking about it and doesn't understand why it bothers me. When I tell her I want to meet others my age she just shrugs me off and says there is no point. I don't know what your experiences have been, but maybe we could talk sometime.

hi im 19 and i kno how u feel. i've never met anyone like me either. it makes me feel alone and like an outcast. i struggle with self-esteem all the time. i kno everyones experience is different, but im sure we can relate. maybe we can chat sometime.

I was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate. I've gone through 8-9 surgeries, and I still need a few more, but since I don't have insurance at the moment, they'll be put on hold for another few years, at least. I've met a few strangers with CL/P, but no one that I've gotten to know or consider a friend. You're not alone in your insecurities or pain.
