" I'm 17, and I have bilateral cleft lip and bilateral cleft pellet.

It's very possible you don't' notice other people with clefts cause yoru use to it. I don't. Someone always has to point it out to me.

It's actually not that rare of a birth defect. There some actors and actresses with clefts. "

" Its hard to be a teen with a different image. I have been there. I am 31 now, but I remember how it felt back then. To look at me no one knows that I have one. You may not notice other people with it. If you need to chat or have questions, let me know. "

" I'm 18, I was born with a cleft lip and have always been horribly insecure on the inside because of it which in turn ironically I compensated with by becoming very outgoing and portray every air of confidence even though i'm secretly terrified and I want to become an actress and am going to school in NYC to achieve my dream but am so worried I wont ever make it because of my cleft lip appearance. " I'm fifteen, and I was born with a cleft lip and palate. The only person I've ever met with another cleft lip was a little boy when I was six, and he only had one side scarred, and he gave me this look of utter disgust. I was so embarassed, and I didn't even understand why he did it! It wasn't until I got to the fourth grade that everyone really came down one hard with the teasing. Even in high school, the immature teasing continues. I hate to see that most people still haven't grown up. But having a cleft lip and palate have made me who I am today, and I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. I know it's really hard, most of the time, but there are people out there who love you unconditionally. And I know all about wanting to have relationships with boys or whichever your sexual preference is. I've only had one, and he ended up leaving me for some girl who teased me heavily. She was in high school and she was still childish, so you can imagine how hurt I was. But it does get easier with friends who like you for who you ARE, not ow you look. I developed a sense of humor and I tell jokes all the time and people laugh with me instead of at me for a change. Honestly, you do have to get out there and try. Being a shy person makes them hate on you harder, and I KNOW it's hard to have ANY confidence after living your life like this, but you have to try. Trying is all you can do until you succeed. "
