I have known that cirrhosis complications can lead to stomach bleeds and bleeding from the throat area(I can't even beging to spell the word). Well I just found out recently that it can also cause spontanious brain bleeds,as this happened to my hubby. Has anyone else had this happen or did anyone wlse know about this?

" I looked up brain bleeds on the computer and looked for causes. The medical people kept asking if he had any kind of head injury..no. When we went to the nurologist,he asked about head injuries also...no. When I told him I had looked it up on the computer and found on the list of causes for brain bleeds, and "liver disease" was on the bottom of the list and that hubby had cirrhosis,he immediatly said then it was spontanious brain bleeds caused from the damage done by the liver disease. They put him on anti-convulsion medication...seems to be working fine. "

" Bleeding is common with cirrhosis. It is usually caused by a deficiency of vitamin K. This can effect any part of the body, but particularly varices.

" Hi yes I think Craig's correct its vit k that help control blood coagulation, and in cirrhosis this system is sometimes out of sync due to poor vit k absobtion.

Heart or stroke patients are usually treated for the opposite problem of blood clots and given anticoagulants ( rat poison ) This level is monitored and sometime's an emergency shot of vit k is required to stop bleeding.

Another problem is if too much vit k is given then blood clots can occur. So heparin is given to counteract this,

Just to say its vital for this blood clotting system to be regulated and monitored. "
