I hear so much about research into the benefits of coffee drinking. The USA is big on coffee compared with the UK, but alcohol consumption is probably similar. I have heard form some fairly heavy coffee imbibers on this site so I can't see the effect can be very dramatic, must put coffee on the shopping list though. y: study Today, 12:12 am Buzz Up! I actually have been reading research articles on this very subject over the last few weeks. I have since significantly increased my daily coffee consumption and my hands are shaking as I type this.
All kidding aside, some of the research articles I have so far read date back to 1998 where it was shown that Japanese men who heavily consumed alcohol but also drank coffee had lower ALT enzyme levels. And the more coffee they drank, the better their ALT enzyme levels were. Then another recent study here in the U.S. showed that the more coffee chronic alcohol drinkers consumed the risk of developing cirrhosis decreased considerably-once again, the more coffee consumed the more the risk decreased. And finally there is this recent study in Finland where they found a direct link to coffee consumption and a decreased risk of developing liver cancer! One more time- the more coffee consumed, the lower the risk. coffee.consumption.associated.with.lower.liver.cancer.risk" title="http://esciencenews.com/articles/2008/06/26/higher.coffee.consumption.associated.with.lower.liver.cancer.risk" target="_blank"> http://esciencenews.com/articles/2... These are not the only studies on this particular subject. There are a few others as well. So it looks very convincing that this is not just some sort of fluke, and there are very real benefits from drinking coffee for anyone whom is at risk of developing liver cancer.

This is funny, i was just reading a study last night that said showed men who drank 4 cups of coffee had a 60-80% greater chance of not developing cirrohsis. I wonder if this is as accurate as so much of the other crap I read and how that would truly be determinded -- but if you can drink it's worth a shot i guess. It showed no reflection to what good it would be for someone who already has liver diesease. I know for me the sicker I got with my liver disease the less caffinne I can tolerate. It makes me nervous and sick at my stomach.

Just found another interesting news article on how coffee consumption halts the progression of liver disease. The article states that, “A recent research carried out in the US has reported that consumption of several cups of coffee in a day can help in halting progression of liver diseases. The study reported that patients suffering from chronic Hepatitis C and other similar advanced liver diseases and drank 3 or more cups of coffee a day brought down the chances of their disease progressing by 53%.” About a week or two after I quit drinking, I had also quit drinking coffee. I am now back to drinking at least one cup of joe in the morning, but this morning I had two. I used to drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee easily. I have since been trying to keep my blood pressure under control, and thought it would be good to stop drinking coffee. However, since being a little bit successful in lowing my blood pressure, I am now experimenting with reintroducing regular coffee consumption into my diet because the apparent benefits seem to presently outweigh the negatives.
