I have a friend that couldn't walk, talk, swallow, eat, and went into a coma, they took him to hospice instead of going to the emergency room, he died four days later. Is this the end when this happens. My husband has cirrohsis and I want to know is there not any hope after this happens? I just want to know what to expect...Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Margie,
Take Shannon's advice. He's been round more blocks than a taxi. I guess I was lucky when I got diagnosed for two reasons: 1. My doc scared the cr@p out of me. 2. I got so ill, so quickly (MELD 19) that the last thing on my mind was drinking. I just cannot understand how anyone suffering with this awful disease can even contemplate drinking alcohol. Just my $0.02 worth.

My husband is under the care of Hospice, they are a wonderful group...We believe his kidneys are failing ....goes to doc tomorrow! He is just getting weaker and weaker..too weak to even drink...been 3 days, probably too late...
He has lost so much weight...it's so sad to watch somebody you love deteriorate like that... Again, thank you to you all! Maragie

Margie, I am very sorry for all you are going through. You are right. Its very difficult to watch someone you love go from being strong and healthy to being disease ridden with something like cirrhosis. I did not know much about cirrhosis at all until early this year when my sister became so ill. These people here have been so much help to us....especially me as I have been th one trying to learn what I can to see what we need to do next.
If he is not able to drink now, can they work on getting him more stable now? Guess I still am pretty ignorant on cirrhosis so please excuse me if that was an off the wall question. Craig, can't they still do something for him??

Thank you for your response...when I said he hasn't had anything to drink for 3 days, I meant acohol(and only because he can't get it)...and hasn't eaten in 2 weeks...when he eats he gets so sick...he quit taking his lactalose...makes him sicker..lost so much weight...I just think he waited too long to quit drinking..
Thank you, Margie
